Family Practice - physician retired

Does working in a city really turn you on?
Are you challenged enough and providing the kind of service you were trained to do?
Is there enough time for outdoor pursuits in a land of infinite mountains, lakes and rivers?

Yukon - Have you thought of living in a vibrant community surrounded by pristine lakes and mountains? “A land unpeopled and still” was how poet Robert Service described the Yukon. Service went on to describe our territory as “A land where the valleys are nameless and the rivers run God knows where...”.  This only partly describes the awe that one feels when enjoying this most amazing place.  To be alone on one’s own river, a first ascent of a mountain peak, the first telemark turns or snow board track of the season on a coast range mountainside are all part of the cornucopia that one can experience easily in the Yukon.  National parks within the Yukon include Kluane National Park in the southwest as well as Ivvavik and Vuntut National Parks in the north. Yukon is filled with adventurous souls from all parts of Canada who can still access Vancouver by daily direct jet service!

Whitehorse is strategically situated in the southern Yukon with easy access to the Southeast Alaska, Tatshenshini -Alsek Prov Park, the Chilkoot Trail as well as the hundreds of miles of lakes which are headwaters for the Yukon River. Whitehorse, the territorial capital, has a brand new hospital and an excellent medical community. It also boasts a vibrant arts community with the beautiful Yukon Arts Centre whose gallery is approved for national exhibitions and an acoustically magnificent theater which enables us to enjoy National touring groups as well as many fine local performances.

Whitehorse Medical Services Ltd (WMSL) is a well-organized group practice of family physicians. Started in the late 1960s WMSL is a well-established member of the community. Since 1994 we have been using the fully integrated CLINICARE computerized medical records system providing us with an efficient chartless office.  In addition we have an in house x-ray department and laboratory and full-time clinic manager. We have just, unfortunately, caught up with the rest of Canada in experiencing a shortage of physicians to meet the needs of the community as well as losing some physicians to retirement.

Your practice - You have the opportunity to step in to an established, well-managed family practice with room to grow. With a  generous fee-for-service schedule one is well paid for service provision. Within the group we take up to several weeks off per year, enough to allow us to feel balance in our lives and enjoy all the Yukon has to offer!
